A member of President-elect Obama's transition team for the Treasury announced Wednesday he is running for the seat held by Rep. Hilda Solis, D-Calif., the Pasadena Star-News reported.
Emanuel Pleitez has worked in the offices of then-Los Angeles City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa and the Senate Democratic Steering and Coordination Committee.
If Solis wins confirmation, a special election would be held within 140 days.
State Sen. Gloria Romero and Judy Chu, chairwoman of the state Board of Equalization, both Democrats, have said they will run for the reliably Democratic seat.

A well designed replica watches uk will command a second glance. The features integrated within it are fully functional. So if the manual says that it is water resistant for up to 100 meters, you can be sure that it is. Meanwhile, certain watches also provide dual time zone, day and date indicators, and other ingenious innovations.

Emanuel is an excellent candidate. In the 2008 election, not a SINGLE seat of the 53 CA districts changed hands (Jackie Speier's election to succeed Lantos doesn't count). This should be a seat that goes to the new generation, not the old guard. Calderon and Chu and Gil -- they're all fine politicians, but they're just that -- politicians. Fresh air = Emanuel. Thank god.

Emanuel Pleitez is such a breath of fresh air in California politics.
He decided to run for congress because he truly wants to help people,
especially the community that nurtured him. His age should be seen as
a qualification for this job. He is in the unique position to be able
to relate to the people he is trying to help. While he has experience
in finance, both as a profession and by contributing to the Obama
transition team, he also understands the importance of education.
Emanuel is a direct example of what a good education can do and he has
dedicated himself to serving as a mentor to students in the community
he grew up in. What I find to be so appealing about Emanuel is that
he lives his life in a way I hope to emulate: "Be the change you want
to see in the world." He is a part of the change that is occuring
across the country, bringing hope and optimism to politics.
